SSB Rescued 13 Minor Children and Apprehended 04 Human Traffickers

New Delhi- 07 July, 2017 – On specific inputs, Anti-Human Trafficking operation team of 20th Bn. Sitamarhi led by Sh. H.B.K Singh, Commandant rescued 13 minor boys and apprehended 04 traffickers on 06.07.2017 at 1800 Hrs. from Bairgania railway station, District Sitamarhi, Bihar. Rescued minors were being taken by Karambhoomi Express train No. 12545 to Mumbai for child labour at construction sites and bag factories. The traffickers have been handed over to GRP Sitamarhi after lodging FIR.  Rescued victims were handed over to NGO “Childline.

Rescued 13 minor boys are between the age group of 13 years to 17 years. Out of the 13 boys, 9 are Indian nationals and 04 are Nepalese. Among four apprehended traffickers one is Nepalese and rest are Indian nationals from Bihar.

During preliminary interrogation apprehended persons have revealed the names of persons to whom these children were to be handed over at Mumbai.  Mumbai police has been intimated about the details of the person. The nexus between Indian and Nepalese traffickers is being investigated by GRP Sitamarhi and help of Mumbai police is also being taken to break this nexus.

A special drive against human traffickers on Indo-Nepal and Indo-Bhutan has been launched by SSB on the initiative of DG, SSB Smt. Archana Ramasundaram.

A roadmap on Anti Human Trafficking was framed after conducing a workshop under the chairmanship of DG SSB Smt. Archana Ramasundaram on 10.04.2017. The workshop was attended by all the stakeholders including senior police officers from the state of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal on Indo-Nepal border,  NGOs working on the border including Prayas, Pratham, Bachpan Bachao Andolan, Shaktivahani, Justice and Care, Maiti India also participated in the workshop. Also  senior police officers from the states/metro cities which are destination of the trafficked victims including Mumbai(Maharastra), Banguluru(Karnataka), Kolkata(W.B), Delhi deliberated in the workshop, senior officers of MHA, Labour, HRD and Women and Child Development who are dealing with Anti Human Trafficking, rescue & rehabilitation works were present in the workshop.

Leading a campaign against human traffickers on Indo-Nepal Border and Indo-Bhutan Border, SSB has rescued 359 victims and apprehended 113 human traffickers in 82 cases this year so far. In the year 2016, SSB has rescued 533 victims and apprehended 160 human traffickers in 87 cases.
