POACHERS SURRENDERED TO SSB ON WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

New Delhi, 7 June 2017:- Four poachers surrendered in front of Sashastra Seema Bal and Deputy Commissioner Baksa at Uttrakuchi in Baksa district of Assam. The surrendered poachers have been identified as Anil Boro, Manoj Medhi, Ratneshwar Modahi and Madhab Modhahi. They were motivated by SSB and local NGO, Manas Showki Eco Tourism Society for surrender and they surrendered themselves along with weapons on world environment day i.e. 5 June 2017.

      Commandant 24th Bn SSB and DC Baksa applauded the role of NGO and welcomed the surrendered persons for their decision to join the main stream with local public and wished them best for conservation of wildlife and above all the environment. Smuggling of forest produce and poaching are major crimes in the area of responsibilities of SSB.

SSB is committed to its mandate to check cross border crimes, check smuggling of forest produce, wildlife and poaching apart from guarding INB and IBB. The SSB had made seizures of Tokay Gecko and also recovered two jars of Snake venom in May 2017. Their value was pegged at Rs. 70 Crore.
