SSB received Special Jury Award at the FICCI Smart Policing Awards Ceremony for its Border Interaction Team initiative on 5th May 2016.

SSB also received the prestigious ‘Leadership in Animal Welfare Award 2015’ for its Outstanding Services to Animals through Law Enforcement from the Humane Society International, India Chapter.   

After the deployment of SSB on Indo-Nepal and Indo-Bhutan borders the smuggling and anti-national activities have been controlled considerably. For several years, we also took on the Bhutanese Convoy Protection Duty from the Indian Army and conducted it in a trouble free manner for several years which was appreciated by HE the King of Bhutan, Jigme Singye Wangchuk too.  BKing

SSB also became the First Border Guarding Force to deploy women on the border for border guarding duties in June 2008.

 SSB has so far facilitated 126 free of cost Cleft Lip Cleft Palate operations for poor persons in the frontier areas.

In 2015-16, total seizures of narcotics, Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICNs), wild life produce, forest produce and contraband items etc.  to a tune of Rs.225.78 Crore were made with the arrest of 3583 criminals.  Until November, 2016, total seizures to the tune of Rs.283  Crore approximately were made with the arrest of 4191 criminals.

Between April 2015 to March 2016, SSB has rescued 366 human trafficking victims and arrested 110 traffickers in 80 cases from Indo-Nepal border and Indo-Bhutan Border. Further until November, 2016, 450 persons were rescued and 125 were arrested in 73cases on INB whereas 32 persons were rescued and 12 were arrested in 11 cases on IBB.

SSB adopted 309 schools in 2015-16, in order to add class rooms and provide toilets and drinking water facilities.

In accordance with the Prime Minister’s initiative, SSB constructed 120 toilets in girl’s schools along the frontier villages in 2015-16.

SSB was the Nodal Agency for the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana in the INB and IBB. In all, 3,69,8s21 Lakhs accounts were opened from Oct 2014- November  16.

SSB also adopted Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and cleaned its campus areas. It also went on to make people in the AOR conscious about the need to keep their neighborhood clean. SSB units also cleaned Adopted Schools, important streets and market places conducted big cleaning drives which encouraged people’s participation.

Under Beti Bachao, Beti Padao initiative SSB conducted several Workshops and rallies to educate the personnel and the border population. Women folk are given special preference in our Women Awareness Generation Programmes and Skill Development programmes like, beautician, cookery, bakery, and tailoring and computer education courses. During this year the Force has conducted 29 income generating training programmes and trained 875 girls and women. We also at regular intervals conduct Special Educational Tours for girls.   

In order to embellish the quality of cows and their yield in Assam, SSB in association with Assam Livestock Development Agency in Guwahati started a unique programme in which, six Artificial Insemination Centres have been started in Assam on IBB. SSBs Artificial Insemination Centres are located at Border Out Posts at Kumarshali, Bishnupur, Saralpara, Bhutankuthi, Gaidong Chowk and Paharpur. In 2015-16, 1356 artificial inseminations were conducted which yielded 563 calves and from April to Nov, 2016,  268 artificial inseminations were conducted which yielded 250 calves.

SSB deployed nine Mobile Medicare and Ambulance Services at remote border out posts at Banbasa, Sonauli, Jogbhani, Pantoka, Panitanki, Darranga, Bhairavkunda, Raimona and Dadgiri on INB and IBB. So far, 2907 people benefitted from this facility. 48 Nepalese citizens availed this service.

In 2015-16, under SSBs free Health Care programmes, SSB doctors treated 1,05,280 patients in 2,153 villages and delivered 1,762 motivational talks in the border areas. From April – November 2016, SSB treated 57,027 patients and covered 1016 villages and delivered  746 talks on health and hygiene subjects.

In 2015-16, under SSBs free Animal Care programmes, SSB doctors treated 1,80,462  and vaccinated 5417 poultry birds and livestock across 2255 villages. From April – November, 2016, SSB doctors treated 96,523 and vaccinated 2335 livestock across 1110 villages.

SSB has its own breeding and training centre where till date 113 dogs have been trained in different trades and produced 117 pups to meet our own deficiency. MHA has given mandate to SSB for providing pups to CAPFs and State Police. The supply will begin from next year, onwards.

SSB has Animal Transport Units at Champawat and Gangtok, Tawang, Dirang and Narkatiaganj are authorized units. In all, we have 30 ponies/mules available for transportation of jawans, ration, stores and evacuation of casualties. SSB also has 32 riding horses and at present 24 Riding Horses are available for training of Officers at SSB Academy Srinagar and CTC Debendranagar.

SSB has its own dog squad comprising of different breeds of dogs all amounting to 222. They include tracker, explosive, narcotics, mine detection and search and rescue dogs. Dogs are doing a wonderful job in operational role and also have won several AIPDM awards. They also assist the local police in crime detection. Some of them are placed in J & K, ANO Battalions, Integrated check Posts and Railway Stations.

SSB personnel have been strong contenders in the National and International Sports arena. In all, SSB won 394 medals. 231 medals in All India Police Games/ Duty Meets, 121 National Medals and 42 International Medals were won by our sports persons. In 2015-16, 85 cash rewards were given to National and International sportspersons and 22 Director General’s Golden (9) and Silver Discs (13) in 2015-16.

In 2015-16, SSB Hosted the All India Police Badminton Championship at New Delhi and also hosted the All India Police Football Championship in Siliguri, West Bengal.

So far, SSB personnel have been awarded 01 Padma Bhushan, 01 Kirti Chakra, 04 Padma Shri’s, 06 Shourya Chakra’s, 02 President’s Police Medal for Gallantry, 05 Police Medal for Gallantry, 01 Uttam Jeevan Raksha Padak, 19 Prime Minister’s Medal for Life Saving, 02 Jeevan Raksha Padak, 03 Parakram Padak, 19 Special Service Medal, 4,013 Poorvi Star, 1,241 Paschimi Star, 9,848 Sangram Medal, 4,589 Police (Special Duty Medal), 59 President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service, 02 Asadharan Suraksha Seva Patra, 401 Police Medal for Meritorious Service, 14 Sarvottam Seva Praman Patra, and 23 Uttam Seva Praman Patra, 13,769 25th Anniversary Medal.  12 NR

SSB has also made sacrifice on the supreme altar of martyrdom and has 41 martyrs since, 1963.
