Pre-Everest Expedition of SSB Flag off to Scale Mount Kamet 7756 Mtrs and Mount Abi Gamin (7722mtrs)

Ascendance of the highest mountain in the world, the Mountain Everest with the peak of 8848 Mtrs, requires fitness, acclimatisation and stamina and in some cases more than a modicum of technical prowess.

          Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) is planning to send its first ALL WOMEN Mountaineering Expedition team to the Mount Everest in the year 2018. As a part of its preparation, a pre mount Everest expedition (which includes five women personnel) led by Sh. Somit Joshi, DIG also an Everester to Mount KAMET (7756 mtrs), the third highest mountain peak in India and Mount ABI GAMIN (7722 mtrs) situated in Kumaon Garhwal Himalayas in Chamoli, Uttarakhand was flagged off today at 1700hrs, from Force Headquarters, SSB R.K Puram New Delhi.

          Padmashri Smt. Santosh Yadav, the first woman in the world to climb Mount Everest twice and also the first woman to successfully climb Mt. Everest from KANGSHUNG face was the Guest of Honour, She flagged off the expedition along with DG SSB Smt. Archana Ramasundaram IPS.

  Padmashri Smt. Santosh Yadav spoke about her experiences and congratulated SSB on the first expedition including women and wished the team success. Smt Archana Ramasundaram DG SSB expressed satisfaction at the strides taken by women in the SSB and said that SSB was surging forward in every sphere and making its while upholding the motto Seva, Suraksha, Bandhutava.

          This pre-Everest expedition aims to encourage maximum number of SSB women mountaineers to take part in adventure sports and in addition to selecting the team for SSB. All women Mt. Everest expedition focuses on conserving ecology by bringing back the litter left behind by previous expedition teams according to Smt. Renuka Mishra, IPS IG (P&T) FHQ, SSB.
