       Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is a cleanliness Campaign run by the government of India and initiated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi . It was launched especially on the birth anniversary of the “Mahatma Gandhi” as it was his dream to make our country a well kept nation. It is only possible  if each and every person living in India  would understand this campaign  as their own responsibility and try to meet hands together to make it a successful mission.


                   Pursuant to the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s call on “Swachh Bharat (clean India) Campaign and directives from Ministry of Home Affairs , the same was launched  in SSB by the Director General along with  other officers and officials of FHQ SSB. Similarly, it has also done by SSB field units on Indo-Nepal Border and Indo –Bhutan Borders.

     Complying with the appeal made by our Hon’ble Prime Minister , a pledge on Swachh Bharat was taken by officers and officials at FHQ SSB and its all field establishments .

    Following actions have taken at FHQ SSB and its field establishments all along the Indo-Nepal and Indo-Bhutan Borders and other parts of India where ever SSB is has its location.


1.     Cleanliness Oath/Pledge (Swachhta Shapath) has been administered to all SSB employees.

2.     A Mission of “Swachh Bharat” is being perused vigorously by the FHQ and its field formations .All establishments of SSB have been directed to carry out cleaning for two continuous hours in the form of “Shramdan” once in a week. SSB FHQ have been carrying out Cleanliness Drive from 1530 hrs to 1745 hrs on every Friday as per directives of Government of India.

3.     Under the Swachh Bharat Mision, FHQ SSB has adopted the “Jeewan Deep Kusht Aashram” at R.K. Puram and taken the responsibilities to conduct the cleanliness drive and civic action programmes like constructions of Ladies toilet, Medical civic action programme, donation of blankets, clothes, food, etc.

4.     Also SSB field Units has adopted various religious places and places of tourism importance  under Swacch Bharat Abhiya are as under:-

   ·        Sector Hqrs. Piibhit (UP) have adopted Gurudwara Nanak Mata Sahib Pilibhit(U.P.).

    ·        Sector Hqrs. Almora (U.K.) have adopted Chitai Golu Devta Mandir Almora (UK).

    ·        29th Bn.SSB Khaprail (WB) have adopted BOP Sandakphu(W.B.).

     ·        43rd Bn.Pattan (J&K) have adopted Hazrat Sheikh Ahmed Kirmani Dargah Pattan(J&K).

   ·        9th Bn Balrampur (UP) have adopted Vibhuti Nath Mandir Balrampur(U.P.).

     ·        MTC  Shimla (HP) have adopted  Shankat Mochan Temple Shimla(H.P.).

   ·        64th Bn Alwar (Rajasthan)have adopted Dholagarh Temple, Lakshmangarh, Alwar(Raj).

    ·        65 Bn Jamnagar (Gujrat) have adopted Rosy Mata Mandir, Ros Port, Jamnagar and Siddhivinayak Ganesh Mandir, Jamnagar (Gujarat).

   ·    51st Bn. Sitamarhi (Bihar) have adopted Janki Mandir, Sitamarhi, (Bihar).

     ·        67th Bn Shamshi (HP) have adopted Bijli Mahadev Mandir, Shamshi and Manali Shamshi(H.P.).


5.     As per the directives of MHA, following actions were taken by FHQ SSB and its field formation on Indo-Nepal Border and Indo-Bhutan Border under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan-


(i)            Creating awareness among SSB personnel and villagers nearby SSB establishments about maintaining the cleanliness, hygine and sanitation.

(ii)        The sanitation and hygine are being improved in the campus of all SSB Units. Habit has been inculcated in the personnel to use dustbins for disposal of waste.

(iii)       Suitable numbers of dustbins at various places for collection of garbage have been placed at all SSB Units.

(iv)      Separate  toilets have been provided in sufficient number for women  at all locations.

(v)        Ensuring that toilets have running tap water as far as possible.

(vi)      Ensuring that there is no water stagnation near the Kitchen or in the campus in general so as to prevent breeding of mosquitoes causing serious diseases like Malaria/Dengue.

(vii)   Ensuring that senior Officers and Commandants must also visit the Schools adopted by SSB every month during their field visits and undertake cleanliness  drive  along with Teachers and students.

(viii) Separate colour coding for dust bins as per category has been used for non-degradable and biodegradable waste.

(ix)      Ensuring that regular cleaning of wash rooms, use of disinfectants and air fresheners for prevention of bad odour.  Regular checking of water pipes and joints to check and reduce the water leakage and wastage.

(x)        Water drains are being cleaned regularly. Water tank is being cleaned periodically.

(xi)      Fumigation of drains and surrounding areas is being carried out to prevent breeding of mosquitoes.

(xii)   Corridors are being kept clean. Almirahs etc are being removed to keep the passage clear.

(xiii) Mess area is being cleaned regularly. Exhaust fans and chimneys are being installed in the cook House.

(xiv) Weeding out of old records is carried out as per the retention schedules. However, old records are being weeded out timely. Office space is kept clutter free.

(xv)   Old and broken furnitures are being repaired or condemned and auctioned.

 6.     Apart from above, in the mean time following special cleanliness drive have also observed by FHQ SSB and its field formations.


(a)              World toilets day on 19.11.2014.

(b)              Week long cleanliness drive wef. 22.06.2015 to 26.06.2015.

(c)               National cleanliness campaign wef. 25.09.2015 to 31.10.2015.

(d)              Special cleanliness campaign wef. 18.12.2015 to 27.12.2015.

(e)               Swachhta Pakhwara wef. 01.04.2016 to 15.04.2016.

(f)                Swachhta Pakhwara wef. 16.05.2016 to 31.05.2016.
